It is believed that the remains of St. James were carried by boat from Jerusalem to Spain, where he was eventually buried in the city of Santiago. The name Santiago is derived from the Latin Sancti Lacobi, meaning "Saint James". <p>Each year, thousands of people from all over the world walk this sacred trail. The pilgrimage began over 1,000 years ago and it is estimated that as many as 250,000 pilgrims make the journey to Santiago each year. The Scallop shell is a symbol of the Camino, which the pilgrim wears around their neck or attached to their backpack for identification. </p><p>The word Camino means "Path" or "Way". Grace is understood as God's favor or God's goodness. The Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary, the mother of Jesus, telling her that she was full of Grace, that she had found favor with God and that the Lord was with her. In Christ, we too have received God's grace and favor, for the Lord is with us. </p><p>St Teresa of Avila, a woman of deep prayer wrote, "We need no wings to go in search for God, but only to find a place where we can be alone and look upon God who is present within us." </p><p>"Camino Grace" is a book which is meant to lead one to find a quiet place to hear Christ's voice.</p>
